Edwin “Scott” Powley, age 67, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Scott was born in Bridgeport on September 8, 1946 to the late William and Bertha Powley. He was a graduate of Bassick High School and Norwalk Community College and served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during the Vietnam War. Scott was a retired financial planner for American Express Financial Services. Most recently he enjoyed his work with State Marshall Thomas Foldy. He was a current member of the Bridgeport Planning and Zoning Commission and was the Treasurer of the Fairchild Wheeler Men’s Club. He was also a past Bridgeport Parks Commissioner.
One of Scott’s biggest passions was golf and over the years he made several holes-in-one. Scott was an avid reader who enjoyed his vacations in Maine. He could be found walking in waist-deep water collecting sand dollars and he loved visiting family. He was an outgoing person who enjoyed engaging in conversation and he was most content being at home with his immediate family.
In addition to his loving wife Susan, Scott will be dearly missed by his son Jonathan of Bridgeport, his daughter Kristin and her husband Jorge Casarrubias of Greenwich, his brother-in-law James Anderson of Langley WA, two sisters-in-law Carol Powley of Kittery, ME, and Andi Powley of Kelseyville, CA, several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was pre-deceased by his two brothers Terry and Nelson Powley. A celebration of Scott’s life will take place on Friday at 3:00 PM in the Nichols United Methodist Church, 35 Shelton Road, Trumbull, with the Rev. James Midgley officiating.
