Herbert L. Lobdell, age 95, of Trumbull passed away Friday, September 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Bridgeport Hospital. Herbert was born November 18, 1921 in Bridgeport, son of the late Charles Herbert and Margaret Cullinan Lobdell. Herbert graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1940. After earning his Bachelor’s degree from the School of Civil Engineering at Cornell University (Class of 1948), he acquired a Master’s degree in Engineering from Rutgers University. He was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the Army- Air Corp. During his 3 years in the China Burma and India theatre. Herbert earned a Bronze Star for his volunteer service at Battle of Meiktila in Burma. He spent his career working as a Civil Engineer, owning his consulting practice for the past 40 years up to his passing. Professional affiliations include Life Member of the American Society of Engineers, American Consulting Engineering Companies, and he was a former President of the Southwest Chapter of the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers. During his life Herbert enjoyed sailing, photography, woodworking, traveling and his beloved sport of tennis which he played until aged 93. Survivors include six devoted children, Elizabeth A. Lobdell of Trumbull, Paul H. Lobdell and wife Lisa of Westport, Herbert L. Lobdell of Jupiter, FL, Joseph P. Lobdell and wife Kim of West Caldwell, NJ, Catherine P. Lobdell of Trumbull and Timothy M. Lobdell of Greenwich, a brother William Lobdell and his wife Joan of Shelton, five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Brittany, Sara, Ellen and Meredith and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine Alice Parent, his brother Edward Lobdell and his sisters Evelyn Stosak, Mary Lou Didsbury and Margaret Lobdell. Friends may greet the family in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street & Gorham Place, Trumbull, on Saturday, October 14, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, a prayer service and words of remembrance will take place at 12:15pm. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Fairfield with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
