John W. Fitzgerald age 83 of Stratford passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret McBride Fitzgerald. Born in Newark, NJ he was the son of the late John F. and Sally Olszewski Fitzgerald. Jack was a resident of Hamden and Cheshire for most of his life before moving to Oronoque Village, Stratford. He graduated from Hamden High School, Class of 1951 and Dartmouth Class of 1955. He received a Master’s Degree in Engineering from University of Hartford and a Master’s of Education from Fairfield University.  Jack was a Physics teacher at Cheshire High School for 35 years and was Head of the Science Department. He then taught Chemistry and Physics at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden for 5 years. He was a member of the Connecticut Teacher’s Union, the Cheshire Kiwanis Club, the Oronoque Village Fun Seekers and was a former Parishioner of St. Bridget Church and currently of St. Mark Church in Stratford. Jack enjoyed golf, painting, singing and Irish music, crossword puzzles and spending time at their home at Lake Winnipesaukee.  He is survived by his three children, Patrick Fitzgerald and his husband Danny Yu, Sally Boyd Fitzgerald and her husband Michael, and John Fitzgerald and his wife, Lisa, four grandchildren, Brendan Boyd, Maggie Boyd, Sean Fitzgerald, and Declan Fitzgerald-Yu, his sister Barbara Nerreau and sister-in-law Millie McBride and 16 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00am meeting directly in St. Mark’s Church, 500 Wigwan Lane, Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call Tuesday 4-8pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
