Obituary

Agnes Elizabeth Molloy Tortora passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on August 1, 2009 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, surrounded by her 14 children.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years Carmen A. Tortora, Sr. and her brothers, Dr. Charles B. Molloy, and Thomas Molloy, and only sister, Joan Molloy Johnson.   Born and raised in Bridgeport, CT to Kathryn Lehaney Molloy and Charles Boland Molloy, she was the second of their four children. She graduated from Bassick High School in 1942 and received a B.S. Degree in Bacteriology from the University of Connecticut in 1946. While at UCONN, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, the Newman Club and served as the first elected female President of the Student Senate. Prior to her marriage, she worked in the Microbiology Section of the Pathology Department at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. She has been a Fairfield resident for the past 50 years. She is survived by her 14 children: Kathryn Abrahamsen and her husband Thomas, Thomas Tortora, Dr. Louise Tortora, Margaret McGuinness,  Patricia Schanck and her husband James, Carmen Tortora, Jr. and his wife Susan, Dr. Peter Tortora and his wife MaryPat, Dr. John Tortora, Joan Finlay and her husband Douglas, Mary Dailey and her husband Kevin, Paul Tortora, Martha Gallace, Jane Piotrowski and her husband Dan and Attorney Michael Tortora. and his wife Tiffany and by her 31 grandchildren: Jennifer Abrahamsen, Ryan Tortora, Olivia Tortora, Zachary Tortora, Jack McGuinness, Michael McGuinness, Jacqueline Schanck, Katherine Schanck, James Schanck, Melanie Tortora, Carmen Tortora, III, Michael Tortora, Michelle Tortora, John Tortora, Peter Tortora, Jr., Stephen Tortora, Peter Finlay, Caroline Finlay, Paul Finlay, Mary Finlay, Kevin Finlay, Grace Scully, Cooper Dailey, Paul Michael Tortora, Alexander Tortora, Christian Tortora, Sarah Gallace, Ross Gallace, Kate Piotrowski, Emily Piotrowski, and Michael Tortora. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00am, meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Missionaries of Charity (founded by Mother M.
