Obituary

Alice Margaret Barberi Pisani passed away peacefully at her home in Trumbull, Connecticut, on Tuesday, June 3, surrounded by her devoted children. She was 88 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1937, Alice was a proud graduate of Erasmus Hall High School. As a teenager, she began working for the The Bell Phone Company of New York, where she developed a lifelong work ethic grounded in the belief that the best work is the only kind worth doing.

In 1956, Alice married the love of her life, Bruno Pisani of New Rochelle, New York. They made their home in Peekskill, NY, and raised three children together. Once her children began school, Alice set her sights on furthering both her education and career. In the 1970s, she returned to college and earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition—a bold and inspiring step for a wife and mother of three at that time.

Alice began her professional career at the Sarah Neuman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck, NY, starting as a dietitian and quickly rising to Director of Food Services. Recognizing her talent and drive, the organization's president encouraged her to pursue a degree in Human Resources. Alice earned her master's degree in HR in the early 1980s, a move that led to a pivotal opportunity: a leadership role as Vice President of Human Resources at 3030 Park, a retirement community in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

With two of their children grown and one away at college, Alice and Bruno relocated to Connecticut, first settling in Newtown and later in Trumbull, which became their permanent home. Alice continued her professional growth at 3030 Park, later earning a second Master's Degree in Labor Relations and becoming a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. Over her many years with the organization, she served in numerous leadership roles, always committed to advocating for the elderly with empathy, vision, and tireless dedication.

When Bruno retired, Alice briefly stepped back from her career, eager to share in the joys of retirement. Yet her calling to serve remained strong. She soon became active in Trumbull's civic life, focusing especially on initiatives that improved the lives of seniors. Eventually, she returned to work—this time as Administrator for the School Sister of Notre Dame in Wilton, CT. Though Bruno passed away in 2004, the deep support and spirituality of the Sisters sustained her through her loss. Alice remained with the School Sister of Notre Dame for many years, working with unwavering dedication until her recent diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. At 88, 2 weeks prior to her passing, she submitted her resignation—reluctantly, as she would have happily continued her work for many more years.

In her spare time, Alice found great joy in cooking and experimenting with new recipes, always eager to share her creations with family and friends. A natural hostess, she loved entertaining in her home, where guests were always treated to delicious meals, lively conversation, and the unmistakable feeling of being welcomed with open arms.

Alice had a passion for travel, cherished every moment spent with her family, and delighted in sharing the joy of reading through her beloved book club. She also had a competitive streak and was rumored to be a masterful Mahjong player, often surprising even the most seasoned opponents with her skill and strategy.

Music was the heartbeat of Alice's home. With her husband Bruno—a talented musician and band leader—by her side, their house was always filled with melodies, laughter, and the warmth of shared song. It became a cherished tradition for her children to showcase their musical talents during visits, making any stop at Alice's home a joyful celebration. Whether it was the sound of a piano, a home-cooked meal, or a spirited card game, time with Alice was always full of life, love, and laughter.

Alice was a trailblazer—a woman ahead of her time. She pursued higher education and a fulfilling career as a wife and mother in an era when that was far from typical. Her journey was marked by determination, resilience, and a constant drive to improve herself and uplift those around her. She inspired colleagues, friends, and family alike with her intelligence, warmth, generosity, and strong moral compass. Even into her 80s, she worked full time, driven by a true passion for service.

Alice leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration. She is survived by her children: Joseph Pisani, Carol and Joe Strolin, and Virginia and Alan Pisani; her beloved grandchildren: Amanda and Lucio Lionetti, Taylor Pisani, Joseph Strolin, Derek Pisani, and Cassidy Pisani. She is also survived by her sisters Virginia Collins and Joan Ward, her sister-in-law Linda Pisani, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Alice's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit, strength, and compassion will live on in all who knew and loved her.
