Obituary

We mourn the passing of our beloved mother, Antoinette (Galaty) Caggianello, age 94 of Shelton. Toni, as she was known, passed on to her rest surrounded by the immeasurable love of her family and friends. She leaves, to cherish her memory, loving and devoted children Toni Ann Simpson, Christine Woods and husband James, and Anthony Caggianello and wife Jan. She is also survived by her beloved sister Elsie Sabatino and five cherished grandchildren who knew her as Nana: Christopher Simpson and wife Jennifer, Michael Simpson, Laura Massey and husband Peter, Lynne Chesbro and husband James and Katherine Bauer and husband Mark. She was delighted by seven great-grandchildren: James, Mary Lynne, and Clare Chesbro, Mia, Graham, Mitchell and Griffin Massey as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband of almost fifty years V. James (Jim) Caggianello, who was her rock, her parents Michael and Mary Kiraly Galaty, and eight brothers and sisters. She shared a strong bond with her fellow employees from Remington Arms and Sacred Heart University, gathering once a month with these dear friends right up to the present time. Toni was a member of the St. Andrew's Confraternity, a volunteer at St. Joseph's Manor and a member of the Remington Women's Club. Mom was a woman of many talents. She composed her own obituary--right up to this point--over many years of notes and clippings and an eye for detail. She was a great writer of notes and cards and had a gift for pouring love into the messages she sent. In her later years she was able to indulge in her love of creating art: first with pencil sketches and drawings, and after she took up residence at Wesley Heights, with oil paintings all which will serve as cherished reminders of a remarkable woman. Perhaps her greatest talent was in managing her family--immediate and extended--and we mourn the passing of our matriarch. She didn't write that line, but she would have loved it. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30a.m., with family and friends meeting directly in St. Lawrence Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8p.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Those who so desire may make contributions in Toni's memory to St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Avenue, Huntington, Connecticut  06484.  To send online condolences please visit www.redgatehennessy.com
