Obituary

Arthur Iver Christensen, dedicated husband and father, age 92, died peacefully on Saturday July 5, 2008.  Born on September 11, 1915 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Harry Andrew and Honor Cowan Christensen. Art graduated from Warren Harding High School and the Booth and Bayliss Business School in Bridgeport.
He began his 42 year career with General Electric in 1935 as an assembler in the home laundry equipment division, later holding positions in financial management and as a financial consultant at GE's corporate headquarters in New York City and Fairfield, CT.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Hilda Johnston of Bridgeport, CT. Art and Barbara met while working together at General Electric. They raised their five children in Morrisville, PA and Louisville, KY before finally settling in Stamford, CT. Art is survived by his younger brother Richard H. Christensen of Stratford CT; a son Richard A. Christensen, and his wife Kathy, of Temecula CA; a daughter, Nancy Jacobsen and her husband, Severin, of Indian Trail, NC; a daughter, Joan Christensen, a son, Arthur (Mike) Christensen Jr. and a daughter, Patty Schlegel and her husband, Kurt, and Art's grandchildren, Garrett, Lia, and Logan, all of Norwalk, CT.  He is also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Donahue and Sherry Johnston and several nieces and a nephew. Art was a long time parishioner, board member and financial controller at Holy Spirit Church in Stamford, CT.   He was a very hard worker, who also enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly ice skating and swimming in the backyard pool. Art was an avid gardener growing both vegetable and beautiful floral gardens. Family and friends may call Wednesday July 9 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10 at 10:00am at Holy Spirit Church, 403 Scofieldtown Rd, Stamford. A funeral procession will leave from the church and proceed to the Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford for internment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
