Arthur William Ricketts, 95, of North Ft. Myers, Florida, died peacefully on August 7, 2009, in Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, Florida. Son of John and Hanna Ricketts, Arthur was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, November 30, 1913.Arthur held various management positions in the General Electric Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for 35 years, and in the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company and LTV Steel Company in Niles, Ohio, for ten years. After his retirement in 1976, Arthur devoted the next 30 years of his life to volunteer work. For seven years he hosted his own radio interview talk show, Meet the People, for the Youngstown Ohio Society for the Blind and Disabled, and after moving with his wife Gertrude to North Ft. Myers, Florida, in 1982, he was the entertainment program host for 23 years at the Ft. Myers Florida Senior Friendship Living Room Day Care Center. Arthur was a talented gardener and handy man, a skilled bridge and pinochle player, and an enthusiastic devotee of Uno. Arthur is survived by his son David John Ricketts of North Ft. Myers, Florida, and Wellfleet, Massachusetts, his grandson Brian Ricketts and his wife Chris of Canton, Ohio, his granddaughter Peggy Lombardo and her husband Phil of Akron, Ohio, and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Dershaw of North Canton, Ohio, as well as four great grandchildren, Victoria and Andrew Ricketts, and Anthony and Nicholas Lombardo. Arthur was predeceased by his wonderful wife of 70 years, Gertrude Florence Dennison, 90, in 2006, and by his son Arthur Dennis Ricketts, 47, in 1988. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 17, at 1 PM, in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Arthur will be laid to rest next to his wife Gertrude.
