Obituary

Augusta Butcher Brennan, formerly of Coral Gables, FL, beloved wife of 61 years of the recently deceased Frank G. Brennan, passed away peacefully on Monday night March 28, 2011 in Wallingford, CT.  Born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Isaiah and Augusta Butcher she had previously lived with her husband for many years in Westport and Weston. Prior to her marriage she was one of the first female credit investigators for the then Chase National Bank. Irrepressibly restless, Augusta loved travelling over the years and witnessed many of the century's historic events as they happened. Home over the years included Havana, Santo Domingo, Buenos Aires, Budapest, and San Jose, Costa Rica, in addition to New York, Miami, and Connecticut. She relished sharing her many travel stories with cherished friends and family; she was athletic and an avid bridge player. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Brennan of Fairfield, CT, her son Frank G Brennan, Jr. and his wife Marie of Redding, CT; three grandchildren, Sean Driscoll and his wife Heather of Trumbull, CT, Kelly Goguen and her husband Tim of Wellington, FL, Eilise Brennan of Redding, and one great grandchild, Blythe Goguen of Wellington, FL. She also leaves behind her sisters Dorothy Maffet of Lemoyne, PA, Viola Pomeroy of Center Moriches, NY, Mildred McHugh of Bayport, NY, and a brother Hermance Butcher, of Floral Park, NY, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Marjorie Giarraputo and her brothers, Richard, Theodore, and Harold Butcher. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:00am, meeting directly in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 3pm to 6pm in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, and as a decades-long cancer survivor, Augusta would appreciate, and the family would be grateful, if donations are made to the American Cancer Society – an organization she spent many hours volunteering for in her lifetime.
