Obituary

Barry Hammons departed from this world on September 8, 2025.

Barry was the devoted husband of Maureen and Father to Thomas, Emily and Jacob.

He was also the adoring Grandfather to Summer, Jason and Skylin. During his time

on earth he gave freely to whoever was in need, especially if there was a bend to

teaching!

Barry was born in Detroit, Michigan, spent most of his adolescence in Big Bear,

California and eventually relocated to Connecticut where he finished his education

and raised his family.

Barry possessed a brilliant mind and had a curiosity which drove him to explore and

experience life – the arts and academia – in ways most people only admire in others.

He graduated from Big Bear High School, and later finished his academic career at

the University of New Haven with a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's in

Environmental Science.

Barry was varied, eclectic and abstract. He had a passion for chess, striving and

achieving to be a rated player and he had a love for poetry, even naming his son

Thomas after T.S. Eliot and his daughter after Emily Dickenson.

Barry was a land surveyor and civil engineer (licensed in the State of CT and NY)

and for fun an adjunct professor at CCSU and UNH where he taught land surveying.

He was a patient yet determined teacher striving to see the "light bulbs" turn on

in his students.

Sadly, an accident in 2017 left Barry paraplegic. He bravely lived with his disability,

and through sheer determination and grit arrived at an optimum far greater than

the specialists or therapists ever expected. Barry was a warrior and set the bar high

with his tenacious spirit, endurance and humor. He never complained, he never felt

sorry for himself.

Barry will be deeply and profoundly missed by his family and friends.

May his memory be soft and his spirit strong in all of us.
