Obituary

Carolyn A. Marchese, age 95, passed away of cardio-respiratory failure at Marina Del Rey Hospital in Marina Del Rey, California on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.  Born on November 4, 1915 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Harry and Elizabeth Massimino, she was one of 6 siblings:  Edith, Joseph, Betty, Frances and one brother who died when barely out of infancy.  All but Frances, who lives in Naugatuck, Connecticut pre-deceased her.  On August 2, 1935, she married Frank J. Marchese, who later became President of Warner Brothers Packaging in Bridgeport. Together, they raised two children, Marcia L. Hunt of Sacramento, California and David Marchese of Marina Del Rey, California.  Survivors include her daughter Marcia, son-in-law, Jay B. Hunt, son David, daughter in law, Susan Marchese, two grandchildren, Deborah Hunt of Sacramento and David Hunt of New York City.  She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Hunter and Tyler Baird, of Sacramento and a number of nieces and nephews and their families. Carol as she was known to family and friends was very active with the Girl Scouts, serving multiple terms as President of the Bridgeport Housatonic Council and was also President for multiple terms of the Shakespeare Guild in Stratford.  After her husband's death in 1971 she moved to Oronoque Village in Stratford where she spent increasing time with her sisters, caring for her own mother and traveling the world.  She experienced worldwide travel with her husband on business and began working with the Baldwin Senior Center in Stratford organizing and managing tours all over the United States after he died; coincidentally, many of these involved Atlantic City and Las Vegas because Mom loved to gamble and was good at it.  During this period, she spent winters with her daughter and her family in San Francisco and on annual trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  In 1998, she moved permanently to San Francisco to live with her daughter and to spend more time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and in 2006 she relocated to Southern California to be with her son and daughter in law. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 14 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, followed by services at St Theresa's Church in Trumbull, 5301 Main Street, at 11:00 AM.  Interment will take place immediately following the service at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford, 2205 Stratford Avenue.  After interment, family and friends are invited to celebrate Carolyn's life and share memories at Testo's Restaurant in Bridgeport, at 1775 Madison Avenue. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a donation to the Frank J. and Carolyn A.
