Obituary

Christopher W. McGuinness (Chris), age 62, died unexpectedly at his home in Tamarac, Florida.  The cause was a heart attack.

The youngest of five children of the late Judge John, J. and Virginia C. McGuinness, Chris grew up in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport and Fairfield CT.

A 1979 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Fairfield, Chris earned his B.A. in Special Education at Southern Connecticut State University in 1983. His career in human services, working with both children and adults with disabilities, took him from Connecticut to California and, ultimately, to Florida. An avid fan of film, theater and NASCAR, Chris also loved the beach and spending time with friends and family.

Chris is survived by his four siblings, John (Patricia) McGuinness of Wake Forest, NC, Peter (Cynthia) McGuinness of Bridgeport CT, Tim (Jill) McGuinness of Seattle WA and Sarah (Gilman) Cyr of Hamden CT, as well as 10 nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Chris and his dry sense of humor.

A remembrance service will be held in the Bridgeport, CT area later this year.

To honor Chris' dedication to serving children and adults with disabilities, the family requests that donations be made to Wallingford, CT-based Benhaven, a private, not-for-profit agency whose mission is to enable people with autism and pervasive developmental disorders to live meaningful lives.
