Clarence Barnwell, age 81, of Trumbull, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 2, 2016 at St. Vincent's Medical Center after a brief illness, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Manhattan, New York on July 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Clarence Barnwell and Viola Barnwell (Gaulman). After graduating from Long Island City High School in 1953 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and earned the rank of Sergeant. Clarence was a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service until his retirement as a Supervisor and electronics technician. He was an avid sports fan spending all of his free time attending his grandsons' and nephews' basketball, baseball and soccer sporting events, including tournaments in and out of state. Among his many talents were master carpentry and rehabilitating old buildings, bringing new life to them. One of his proudest accomplishments was building three homes and completely renovating a fourth. Above all his greatest and most loved roles in life were that of husband, father, grandfather, uncle and mentor to those who sought his counsel. He was a kind and gentle man, with a quiet authority. His happiest moments were spent with family. In addition to his loving wife, Barbara, of 58 years he is survived by his two beloved daughters Pamela (Eric Sanders, Sr.) of Trumbull and Athena Jenkins of Hamden, four loving grandsons Eric Jr., Julian, Adrian, and Christian Sanders. Two siblings, Joan Steglich, Roanoke, VA and William (Sandra) Gaulman, Bronx, NY. Three special nieces Sheila (John) Watts, Trumbull and Jacinta Thomas, (VA), and Danielle Watts, Trumbull, and a host of loving nieces and nephews, along with many caring cousins, relatives and friends. Calling hours will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull, CT, with a funeral service directly to follow at 12 noon in the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Mount Grove of Easton Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special note of thanks to all of the staff of 7 South, St. Vincent's Medical Center for their compassionate care during Clarence's stay.
