Clifford (Cliff) Albert Gearing Jr., age 86 a lifelong Bridgeport resident died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Clifford was born on May 27, 1925, son of the late Clifford and Evelyn McDonough Gearing and beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Chiaravalle Gearing. He went to St. Augustine's Grammar School, Congress Junior High School, Central High School, and Warren Business School. Clifford lived in the Hollow section for 27 years before moving to the North End with his beautiful wife. He was drafted into the Army, where he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 81st infantry under General Douglas MacArthur in the Pacific on Anguar and Pelilue Islands, during World War II. Clifford received a purple heart for wounds he received in battle and spent two months in New Caledonia Hospital. Clifford was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. He was an active member of St. Andrew Parish, Rectors Basketball Team, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, and the UCONN, Men's and Women's Basketball Teams. A devoted father and brother he will be greatly missed by; two sons Kenneth A. Gearing and wife Patricia of Bridgeport, Robert J. Gearing and wife Kathy of Bridgeport, a daughter Eileen Gearing of Orlando, FL, a sister Evelyn Gearing of Fairfield, and his cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00a.m. from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10:00a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
