Daniel S. Mercer, age 98 of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Irene Farrell Mercer, passed away, Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Daniel was born in Bridgeport and lived in Oregon several years before returning to the area. He was employed in the engineering department for the Town of Trumbull. Daniel was a veteran of United States Coast Guard during World War II, serving with the merchant marines, and was a life member the Elks Club, Brookings, OR. Survivors in addition to his wife of 57 years include, a son and daughter, David L. Mercer and wife Judy and Marybeth Snider, both of California, four brothers, John Murcko of Bridgeport, Michael Murcko of Bridgeport, Paul Murcko of Fairfield, and Andrew Murcko of Shelton, a sister, Pauline Murcko of Bridgeport, six grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Ann DiFrancesco, Charles and George Murcko. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:00a.m., from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111), Monroe, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
