Donald A. O'Brien, age 87, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Rose Socha O'Brien, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at the Jewish Home for the Elderly. Donald was born in Bridgeport, son of the late Maurice and Marie Schwab O'Brien. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, military police. Donald retired from Producto Machines and was a charter member of the American Legion, Sylvan Crest Post 177, former member of the Gaelic American Club and an avid ham radio operator. Extremely proud of his Irish heritage, he and Rose made over a dozen trips to Ireland. Survivors in addition to his wife, include three loving children, son, Robert P. O'Brien and wife Shelley of Shelton, daughters, Donna R. Elczyk and husband Tommy of Trumbull and Gail M. Kline and husband William of Bridgeport, two sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Forno and husband Albert of Trumbull and Patricia Sharnick of Stratford, five grandchildren, Robert P. O'Brien Jr., Glenn M. O'Brien, Jenna Rose Elczyk, Erin Kathleen Kline and William P. Kline Jr., a great granddaughter, Kaiah Marie Roskowski and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Anton. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 9:00am from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:00am in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.
