Dorothy Gilliam (Evans) was born November 14, 1920, in Charleston, South Carolina. Dorothy went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2025, at St. Joseph's Center in Trumbull. Dorothy was educated in the Charleston, South Carolina public school system and graduated high school at the Avery Institute in Charleston with the class of 1939. Dorothy later graduated from a Teachers College also in Charleston. Dorothy became a school teacher in Charleston for a few years, moved to the great state of Connecticut and was employed by General Electric and other companies for many years. Dorothy was spiritually grounded with a strong religious foundation. She was a member of St. Mark Episcopal church in Bridgeport until her death. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed baking, travelling, photography, flower gardening, her family, with Thanksgiving and Christmas being her favorite times of every year. She leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to her daughter Isabel (George) of MD, two grandsons Anthony Gomes (Grace) of MD and Pashal Whitmore of CA, three granddaughters Kisha Whitmore of GA, Ebony Gantt (Mike) of FL and Kristen Whitmore of CT, numerus great grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son John Whitmore Jr, sisters Myrtle Fields and Isabel Atkinson, grandson Sean Whitmore and daughter-in-law Ruby Whitmore. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30a.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
