Obituary

Edward Peter Garvin, husband of the late Mary (Coursey) Autuori Garvin, died peacefully Monday, May 11, 2009 at St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull, just two months shy of his 98th birthday. He had been a Trumbull resident for 60 years, living in his own home until two months ago. Ed was born in Bridgeport on July 3, 1911, to the late Peter and Mary Skehan Garvin and grew up on Poplar Street, the Black Rock section of Bridgeport and Grasmere, Fairfield. He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School, Fairfield and the Bridgeport Trade School. Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II stateside, in England and in North Africa. He retired from Harvey Hubbell Inc., after 40 years as an industrial electrician. He and his wife Mary were blessed to have enjoyed years of local dances, some world wide travels and a good life in Trumbull. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Mollie McIntyre of Fairfield. Surviving and cherishing his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Joel Cooley of Burke, Virginia, his son, David E. Garvin of New York City, two grandchildren, Jennifer A. Cooley of Fairfax, Virginia and Michael Edward Cooley of Burke, Virginia. He is also survived by his nephew, Donald J. McIntyre of Shelton and his niece, Jeanne M. Stokes of Vero Beach, Florida and their families; also other nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank his Trumbull neighbors, especially the Lewickis and Hamiltons, for all their TLC over the years, his aide Kathy Torres for her loving care at home and for the fine staff at St. Joseph's Manor these past 2 months. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
