Ellen Shaughnessy Redgate of Fairfield passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015. Born in Worcester, MA she was the daughter of the late William J. Shaughnessy M.D. and Margaret Mary Ferry Shaughnessy. She is survived by her husband William T. Redgate, children, Mary Catherine Santa and her husband Ed, Phil Redgate and his wife Tricia, Tim Redgate and his wife Ann Marie, Will Redgate and his wife Kristin, and Dan Redgate and his wife Erin, her sisters and brothers, Mary Alice Mansur, William Shaughnessy, Peggy Schwab, Philip Shaughnessy, Henry Shaughnessy, Claire Starrett, Thomas Shaughnessy, Joel Shaughnessy, Maryann Thompson, and Mary Kay Sparicio, her grandchildren, Claire, Catherine and Charles Santa, John, Michael, Maggie, Emily and Jenna Redgate, Christopher, Anna Rose, Dominic and Mary Margaret Redgate, Kyla, Grace and Will Redgate, and Kathryn and Liam Redgate. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister Ann and grandson John Dominic. Ellen will be remembered as a matriarch, devoted wife, nurturing mother, beloved grandmother, admired sister, and thoughtful friend. She was an intellectually curious, compassionate, humble, and selfless humanitarian. As the dedicated coordinator of the Operation Hope Food Pantry since 1989, Ellen lead an organization that served over 100,000 meals a year to families in need. She enjoyed playing golf, spirited debate, and took great joy in life's simple pleasures. Above all, she loved and treasured being with her family. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00am in St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, CT 06824. Interment will be private. A reception will be held following Mass.
