Obituary

Elvira Johnson Shanley, age 87 of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Raymond A. Shanley, retired Bridgeport Police Captain, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, surrounded by her loving family in her home. Elvira was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Gustave and Ingrid Johnson, and was a graduate of Central High School. Mrs. Shanley worked at Connecticut National Bank and later graduated from Bullard Havens as a licensed practical nurse. She worked in the emergency department at St. Vincent's Medical Center as an L.P.N. After her nursing career she was secretary to the principal at Notre Dame Catholic High School. Elvira was a talented amateur painter, an avid reader, and loved to travel. Survivors included her loving and devoted children, two sons Shaun P. Shanley and wife Sharon of Monroe, and Kevin R. Shanley and wife Cathy of Thousand Oaks, CA, two daughters Deborah Anderson of Dover, MA, and Kathleen Packer and husband James of Trumbull, six grandchildren Susanne Semler and husband Brian, Tim Shanley, Heather Shanley, Lauren Anderson, Stacy Bender and husband Jim, and John Packer, five great grandchildren Kylie, Jason, and Amanda Semler, Marissa Shanley, and Jimmy Bender, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Johnson, two sisters Hazel Parker and Shirley Carroll, and a beloved grandson Charles Anderson. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:00pm meeting directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. There will be no prior calling hours.
