Ethel M. Barney Lawrence of Bridgeport passed away Friday, January 24, 2014.  She was the beloved wife of the late Stuart (Bud) Lawrence.   Born in Kittery ME on May 7, 1921 to Mary and Levi Barney, she was a graduate of Bassick High School and worked as a baker at Bassick for many years. She will be sadly missed by her children Thomas (Mary Jane) Lawrence, John (Alison) Lawrence, and Cindy (Jack) Plavnicky, her grandchildren, Marianne (Joe) Gariglio, Thomas Lawrence (Toya Froman), Dawn (Manny) Esmeraldo, Janet (John) Butz, Karen Lawrence (Julius LeCointe), John (Liz) Lawrence, Scott (Tracy) Lawrence, Melissa Lawrence, Amy (Dan) Foster and John Plavnicky (Maureen Konopka). She was "great nanny" to Ava, Steven, Victoria, Sage, Connor, Savannah, Manny, Mateo, Justin, Johnathan, Joshua, Jayden, Mark, Elizabeth, Andrew and Julia. She is also survived by two brothers, Joseph and Richard Barney and two sisters Alice Moore and Mildred Merritt. She was predeceased by a sister Edith (Red) Barney. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family and numerous friends. Her smile and warm personality brought joy to so many who she met. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30am meeting directly in St. James Church, Stratford with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
