Francis (Bud) Fahy died on December 30, 2014. He was 102 years old. He was surrounded by his loving family during the last few hours of his life. Bud was predeceased by his father James Fahy and his mother, Eva Johnston Fahy. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Fahy and his sister Catherine (Sis) Fahy Behuncik. He was married to Dorothea McHugh Fahy who predeceased him in 2004. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 62 years. Bud was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Pratt Institute's School of Mechanical Engineering in 1933. Bud was employed as a draftsman by Buckminister Fuller in the construction of a Dymaxion three wheeled tear drop car being built in the old Locomobile plant for Gloria Vanderbuilt and Leopard Stokowski, her husband. The company folded after the car was completed and Bud found work as a secretary then later jumped to draftsman at Manning Maxwell and Moore. He was promoted to development engineer and during World War II, designed aircraft instruments for the B 17 Bomber. After the war, Bud left Manning Maxwell and Moore and went to work as a metallurgist and foreman at the American Chain and Cable Company's newly acquired Helicoid Division. He obtained a patent on a bleed device to remove air from hydraulic gages and it was this bleed device, used to clean the interior for the gage that made Helicoid a major source of clean gages for the space program, starting with John Glenn's orbit of the earth up to and including the Apollo program that put a man on the moon. He was later promoted to Plant Manager and retired in 1976. Bud was one of the few people to serve in all three branches of Trumbull's town government. He was appointed deputy judge of the town court by Governor Abraham Ribicoff in 1956, elected Moderator of the RTM in 1957 and appointed in 1960 President of the first Civil Service Commission that drew up the rules and regulations that established civil service for town employees. He was also the proud father of the Trumbull's Master Plan, originated when the RTM, of which he was moderator, combined the Planning commission with the Zoning Commission. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 8 years and was on the Charter Commission that drew up the town's present form of government. Bud is survived by 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. His great great grandchildren, Ellie and Avery Holtz, Emma and Parker Fahy, Tanner and Keagan Ostop, Lukas Marrocco, Liam Lee and Casey Lee. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00am meeting directly in Christ the King Church, Trumbull with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
