Obituary

Francis C. Giblin "Gib" age 78 of Fairfield died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, after complications from a brief illness.

Born in Stamford, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Nilan) Giblin. Frank was a Veteran of the US Navy and notably served on the Admiral's staff aboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La in the Mediterranean during the Six Day War. He was a proud lifelong member of the Sheet Metal Worker's Local Union 38. With his wife, he was co-owner of the Open Book Shop in Fairfield and Wilton. In his retirement he enjoyed working as a plumbing associate at the Home Depot in Trumbull.

Frank was a lifelong Yankees fan and turned that love of baseball into coaching for the Fairfield National Little League for several seasons. He was involved with the Fairfield PTA, the Fairfield Indian Guides with both of his sons, and the Holy Name Society at Holy Cross Church. He loved Cape Cod, cheeseburgers, ice cream, and good music. Every Wednesday, he always looked forward to having breakfast at Bill's Drive-In in Monroe with many of his childhood friends from Stamford. Most of all he enjoyed time spent tinkering around his workbench in the garage, building and fixing things around the house.

Married for 56 years, he was the beloved husband of Claudette (Fusaro) Giblin. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Giblin and his wife Shannon of Fairfield and Brian Giblin of Boston, his sister-in-law Marcy Berry, nephews Bill and David Berry and their families, and his cousin Patricia (Giblin) Cronkright. He is pre-deceased by William B. Berry and Jennifer Berry.

The family would like to acknowledge that a village of healthcare professionals has been involved in Frank's care, from all the wonderful doctors and nurses at St Helena Adventist, Marin Health, and St Vincent's to the physical and occupational therapists that worked with him at South Marin Health & Wellness Center and at home in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Helena Adventist Hospital in Frank's name. (https://shhfoundation.org/ways-to-give/)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield on Thursday at 11:00am, followed by Military Honors. Interment will be private.
