Obituary

Fred Fortunato, age 79 of Trumbull, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in his home. Fred was born in Bridgeport son of the late Fred and Mary Borelli Fortunato, and resided in Trumbull over 40 years. He was the retired owner of Madison Driving School. Fred was an accomplished jazz musician, played the French horn, bass and piano. One of the highlights of his career was opening many times for Mel Torme. Fred was written up in a book published by a bandmate, a book now in the Library of Congress. Survivors include a devoted son Scott Fortunato and wife Pamela of Bridgeport, two grandchildren Gesile James and Louis Cabrera, a brother Howard DeVoe, two sisters Rosalie Sicsico and Dorothy Epifano and husband Gene, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 5:00pm in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, with the Rev. Johnny Gamble, Pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church, Stratford officiating. Friends may call after 4:00pm until service time.
