Obituary

Genevieve Sullivan Marr of Trumbull, CT passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on January 9th, 2016 at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, after a brief illness.    She was 83. Genevieve was born in New York City on October 5, 1932, and was the daughter of Beatrice (Flanagan) and Timothy Sullivan who originally emigrated from County Armagh and County Kerry, Ireland, respectively. She was raised in New York City and spent much of her adult life there.  She was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament High School and The Wood Business School.  She enjoyed ice-skating at Central Park and Rockefeller Center, summers in Belle Harbor, dancing and her professional work at 100 Park Avenue. She was predeceased by her husband, James. W. Marr and her three sisters, Katherine Duggan, Ann McAndrews and Mary Inbody. She is survived by her brother, Walter Sullivan, of Florida and her four loving children:  James W. Marr Jr., John T. Marr (Colleen), Valerie Marr Theissen (Kieran), and Bruce T. Marr.  She will be greatly missed by her beloved nine grandchildren:  Alexandra and Ian Marr, Braelyn and Courtney Marr, Pierce and Cormac Theissen, and James, Andrew and Samantha Marr. She was a devoted parishioner of Christ the King Church in Trumbull, CT and served in numerous capacities.  For the past twelve years, Genevieve resided at Carmel Ridge on the campus of St. Joseph Center.  She remained active in the St. Joseph community and served as a Eucharistic Minister for the St. Joseph Center residents for the past 10 years.  She loved her independence and up until her illness, she still enjoyed long walks, reading and spending time with friends. Genevieve's family would like to thank the staff at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, CT for their incredible care and compassion.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Trumbull, on Tuesday at 11:00a.m.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
