George W. Brown, age 86, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014. George "Lefty" Brown was born and lived his life in Bridgeport, most of it with his ten minutes younger twin Bob Brown. In addition to Bob, George is survived by his sister-in-law Mary, nieces Teri Brown, Martha and husband John Bilski, and grand in every sense of the word, nephew and niece, Jack and Tess Bilski. He was predeceased by his parents George and Margaret Brown and niece Julie Brown. Lefty graduated from the University of Bridgeport where he excelled as a pitcher. He retired from Young and Rubicam, New York City after 36 years and much enjoyed an encore career at the Patterson Club. George was defined by his devotion to his family and pets while still serving his country and community. He was a United States Army veteran, a long time trustee of St. Patrick Church, and served as a member of Bridgeport's then Common Council for ten years, including a year as its president. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center, 6 South and Connecticut Hospice for their kindness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Patrick Church (lower chapel), 851 North Avenue, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Msgr. J. James Cuneo. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Tuesday from 5p.m. to 7p.m. in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
