Obituary

George E Charney, 80, of Sun City Center, Florida and previously of Huntington, CT for 40 years, passed into restful peace on Friday, January 25, 2013.  He was born to Andrew and Elizabeth Charney of Bridgeport, CT on May 24, 1932.  He proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Dixie in the Pacific during the Korean War.  During his time in the Navy, he was an electrical apprentice which led to being a master electrician and owning his own business, which still bears his name today.  In addition to being an electrician, he was a jack of all trades and worked on a popcorn truck in his youth, then as an oilman, real estate agent, and a building contractor. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth M Bodnar Charney,  of Sun City Center, FL; sister Mildred Tyler of Fort Myers, FL; son Andrew Charney and fiancé Nancy Lynch of Hamden, CT;  daughter Elizabeth Charney Morasse and son-in-law Robert Morasse of Rochester, NY; daughter Sherri Charney DeFelice and son-in-law Fred DeFelice of Riverview, FL; son George A Charney of Wilton, CT; daughter April Charney Riordan and son-in-law Dave Riordan of Fairfield, CT;  six grandchildren – Jon Morasse, Peter Charney, Alexa Charney, Olivia DeFelice, Evan Charney, and Cayla Riordan, and numerous nieces and nephews .  He is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Andrew, Mike, and John. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling, golf, playing the saxophone, going to Atlantic City, and spending time with his family.  During retirement, he enjoyed sailing and took up several hobbies including gardening, stained glass, computer club, playing cards, and handicap club. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Road, Trumbull.  Donations may be made in his name to the charity of choice.
