Obituary

George Anthony Downer, 56 of Stratford and formally of Bridgeport, Connecticut and Bronx, New York lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma on Sunday, November 6, 2011. George, affectionately called "Ruddy" by those closest to him was born to Delories 'Miss Girly' Stewart and Vasper 'Judge' Downer in St. Thomas, Jamaica on August 12, 1955. Ruddy was a licensed carpenter and a member of the Connecticut Carpenters Association as well as the local 210 union. He was also a "Jack of all trades" with the ability to turn a bare and basic basement into comfortable living quarters or a house on the verge of condemnation into a beautiful home. His handiwork can be seen all over the Connecticut in private homes and Corporate Buildings especially in Stamford, as well as New York City's boroughs from his time working with the New York City Arch Diocese. Prior to migrating to the United States, Ruddy was an Operations Supervisor at Jamaica Mesh Factory and "right hand man" to its owner, Bruce Dawkins a prominent politician and justice of the peace. Ruddy is predeceased by his mother by only 5 days and his father by 11 months 20 days. He is survived by his seven children, Damian 'Andy' Downer, Leonie 'Tenneice' Downer, Natalee Downer, Andrew Downer, Lemar Downer, Brianna Downer and Brendan Downer as well as his six grandchildren Jhanelle Downer, Donique Downer, Donnelle Downer, Amir Downer and Elian Downer. He is also survived by his siblings Myrtle, Lloyd, Faye, Winsome, Nibbs and Herbie as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday November 27, 2011 in St. Thomas, Jamaica.
