George F. Wilson, Jr., age 81 of Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on December 2, 1942, to the late George and Frances Wilson. After high school, George enlisted in the United States Air Force, honorably discharged. He was a graduate of the University of New Haven, with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Science and served twenty-four years with the Bridgeport Police Department, retiring as a Detective.  He was very active in coaching youth baseball with North End Little League and Bridgeport PAL. George, who loved sports, was very active in the establishment of various baseball programs for Bridgeport Youth. George was presented with the Stephen Koteles Memorial Award from the Greater Bridgeport Veterans Council in November 2000. In 2011 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from American Legion Baseball Zone 4, for longtime dedication and service to American Legion Baseball. George also served as President of the Greater Bridgeport Oldtimers Athletic Association in 2017. In addition to his parents George was predeceased by his infant daughter Kathleen, sisters Nancy Bragulat, Emily Corrazelli, and Carol Vecchione, and brother Gary Wilson. He is survived by his wife Sabina, his children Joseph Wilson, David (Monica) Wilson, and Nancy (Michael) Reyes, a brother Thomas Wilson, grandchildren Daniella, Isabella, and Dylan Wilson, Alyssa (Zach) Green, and Nicole (Devon) Patton, great grandchildren Lena and Theo Green, and Cy Patton, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 28th, at 10:30a.m., from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 11:00a.m., in St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Thursday, December 28th, from 8:30a.m. to 10:30a.m., in the funeral home.
