Gilio Ventresca, age 81, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday evening, October 23, 2012, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven. He was the husband of Eleanor Ventresca, his wife of 54 years. Gilio was born in Introdacqua (Abruzzi), Italy to Antonio Ventresca and Raffaella (Tiberi) Ventresca. A master carpenter, he worked in Venezuela for several years before moving to the US. He was employed as a construction project superintendent by The E&F Construction Company in Bridgeport where he had a 35 year career. He was also a member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 210. Gilio enjoyed his retirement by keeping a large garden, which every year provided a bounty of fresh vegetables that were enjoyed by family and friends. He was a long-time member of the Duke of Abruzzi social club of Bridgeport. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, children Robert Ventresca and wife Sharon of Branford, Susan Ventresca Neikirk and husband John of Bethel, and Marc Ventresca and wife Jennifer of Trumbull. Gilio had a special place in his heart for his six grandchildren, William and Faythe Ventresca of Branford, Brian and Tyler Neikirk of Bethel, and Katherine and Michael of Trumbull. He is also survived by a brother, Giovanni Ventresca and wife Sylvana of Bergamo, Italy, and sisters Vanilia Monaco of Introdocqua, Italy, Elisa Faiella of Sulmona, Italy, and Lina Salvatore and husband Guido of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 27, at 10:00a.m., meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private. Relatives and friends may call Friday, October 26, from 4p.m. to 8p.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
