Giovanna Puntara Mavilla, age 74 of Bridgeport died Sunday, December 9, 2012 in her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Pietro Mavilla. Born in Sicily, Italy she was the daughter of Orazio and Gerloma Puntara. Giovanna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Gardening was a passion of hers and enjoyed creating meals with items from her garden that her family would enjoy together. She worked as a prep cook in restaurants and delis. She is survived by her loving children, two sons Rosario Mavilla and his wife Carol of Shelton, Daniel Mavilla of Bridgeport, daughter Francesca Mavilla of Bridgeport, grandchildren, Paul, Melissa, Peter, Nicholas, Olivia, Elizabeth, brother Orazio from Canada, five other siblings residing in Italy, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00am meeting directly in Salem Lutheran Church, 3160 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
