Harriett Mae Kier Neary Szalucka, age 90, of Shelton and formerly Trumbull, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Bishop Wicke Health Care. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Neary and former wife of the late William Szalucka. Harriett was born in Trumbull at home and raised in the town as a 9th generation Trumbullite. She was a graduate of Bassick High School, class of 1942 and the Booth and Bayliss Business School. She retired after 46 dedicated years of service as "This Gal Friday" for the Peerless Aluminum Foundry. Harriett was a life member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the church's choir. She golfed at the Brownson Country Club, loved to bowl and play a good game of pinochle. Harriett had a special spot in her heart for her feline friends. Survivors include her devoted nieces and nephew, Karen Kier Levine and husband Robert of Stratford and their son Jared Levine, Judith Pawliszga of Milford, Patricia White and husband Charles of Milford and Bryan F. Kier and wife Maryann of Myrtle Beach, SC; also several additional grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ella Downs Kier and Karl F. Kier Sr., two brothers, Arthur D. Kier and Karl F. Kier Jr. Friends may attend graveside services Tuesday, January 19th, at 11:00 a.m. meeting directly at the Long Hill Burial Grounds, Middlebrooks Ave., Trumbull, with the Rev. Ken Smith, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shelton, officiating. There will be no prior calling hours.
