Rev. Harry Denison Baldwin, 89, died on November 6, 2014. He was born April 28, 1925 in Bridgeport, son of the late George Hinman and Beatrice Jones Baldwin. Harry was raised in Fairfield, graduated from Mercersburg Academy and served 18 months in the Navy during WWII. He attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and graduated from Williams College. Harry then graduated from Andover Newton Theological Seminary and was ordained in the United Church of Christ in 1963. Harry served congregations in Irvington, NJ, Lykens Valley, PA, Newfane, VT and Trumbull, CT. He grew up in the United Congregational Church, Bridgeport and returned there after retiring from the ministry. A devoted son and brother, Harry was unconventional and danced to the beat of his own music. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed composing music for the piano, mining the roots of prophetic ministry in the book of Isaiah, and watching his beloved Mets. He was predeceased by his brothers George and Thomas, and niece Pamela. He is survived by a cousin, Mildreth George of Stamford, CT; five nephews and nieces: George H. Baldwin, II, and family of Simsbury; Penelope L. B. Rebuzzini and family of Guilford; Allison M. Baldwin and family of Provincetown, MA; Alex Tomasio and family of Ashtabula, Ohio; and Thomas A. Baldwin, of Michigan. The family offers special thanks to his neighbors in Fairfield and his church family who helped keep him independent for many years, as well as the caring staff at Seabury Retirement Community where Harry had recently moved. A Memorial Service to celebrate Harry's life will be held at United Congregational Church, 877 Park Ave., Bridgeport on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
