IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Ann
Demaiorebus
January 24, 1941 – August 8, 2023
With deepest sadness, we announce the passing of Helen Ann DeMaiorebus of Westport, CT on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Joseph and the mother of Wendy Pieper and Cindy Wallace.
She was born Helen Knopp on January 24, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx and The City College of New York. She taught English for many years in Yonkers, NY and in Wilton, CT, as well as ESL, nursery school, and parenting classes.
She was active in Westport town politics and a member of the Beautification Committee. She loved her neighbors and her community. She was a longtime member of Cedar Point Yacht Club where she and Joe spent their summers sailing. Helen cherished and celebrated her German heritage. She was a fluent speaker and delighted in sharing her culture with friends and family over a cup of coffee.
Helen never shied away from a conversation, whether deep, philosophical, or just getting to know a new friend. Helen was a lover of music. She always enjoyed playing the violin, dancing in her kitchen, and singing along to opera. She loved to bring people together and was a cheerleader for everyone she loved, most especially her grandchildren. She was always excited to greet them, jumping up and down with a smile and ready for a hug. She was there for every moment in their lives, big and small: all the concerts, graduations, birthdays, and sleepovers.
She was irrepressibly happy. Helen brought joy wherever she went. She met every challenge with a smile and lived her life with a sense of optimism, unwavering joy, and endless love.
She will be celebrated and remembered by her husband Joe, daughter Wendy and her husband Paul, daughter Cindy and her husband Geoffrey, and her five grandchildren, Molly, Isabelle, Emery, Jack, and Eloise.
A private burial is planned. In lieu of flowers, please dedicate a donation in memory of Helen to RVNA Health Hospice for caregivers or the American Cancer Society.
