Obituary
Hely U. Moore, daughter of Ilma Hyvarinen Merikoski and John Merikoski went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday March 31, 2013 after a one-year struggle with pancreatic cancer. She was one week short of her 83rd birthday. Hely was the wife of the late Thomas N. Moore and is survived by son David J. Moore, daughter-in-law Susan Moore, sister, Ilma Tikkanen and various nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son Daniel Moore and sisters Thelma Hester and Linnea Willard.
A retired Bridgeport teacher, she was a member of the Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Association, the Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild, the Connecticut Education Association and the National Education Association. Hely earned an Ed. B. from the Rhode Island College of Education, an MA from Fairfield University, and a 6th year certificate in teaching from the University of Bridgeport. She was an active volunteer in a variety of organizations including the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, the GBRTA, and at one time served on the board of directors of the Visiting Nurse Association. Donations can be made to the Greater Bridgeport Symphony (446 University Ave, Bridgeport, CT 06604) and the Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund (GBRTA, c/o Finnegan, 17 Bradley Dr., Monroe, CT 06468). The family wishes to thank Dr. Das and Dr. Dhanjal for their medical care over the last several years. We are especially grateful to Donna Young and the staff at The Springs (Watermark at 3030 Park) for the compassionate care they provided in the last several weeks of Hely's life, and to Vitas Hospice for their support. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4th, at 11:30 am at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull with the Reverend David Johnson Rowe, Pastor of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, officiating. There will also be a memorial service in the chapel at The Watermark at 3030 Park on Thursday, April 4th, at 4:30 pm (3030 Park Avenue, Bridgeport). Interment will be private. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 3rd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
