Irma Reyes Arias Vda. De Gómez age 95 of Shelton died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Born in Palma Soriano, Oriente, Cuba on November 29, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Maria Arias and Luis Reyes and wife of the late José Miguel Gómez. Irma graduated from Escuela del Hogar, Palma Soriano, Oriente, Cuba as a Home Economics Teacher and from Physical Education Institute in Palma Soriano, Oriente, Cuba, and obtained an Art Associate's Degree from Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport. She dedicated her life in Cuba to be a seamstress, which was her passion. She and her husband came to Bridgeport when they escaped from Communist Cuba in 1968 on the Freedom Flights. An accomplished self taught artist Irma participated in more than one hundred art exhibits throughout Connecticut and New York for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Mirene I. Gómez, brother Luis Reyes and wife Elsa of Margate, FL, nephews and nieces; William de J. Botta and wife Teri and Danielle Botta of Naugatuck, US Air Force Ret. LT Col. Louis H. Botta of Washington, DC, Norka and Arturo Hinostroza of Milford, Elba Blasco, Antonieta Diaz, Reinaldo Pérez Gómez, Carlos Pérez Gómez, Teresita Pérez Gómez, Lourdes and Joseph González Gómez and Raul Hernández Baquero of Florida. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00am from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:00am in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 380 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
