James J. McCullough, age 81, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Joan Swartz McCullough, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at home. He was a lifelong Bridgeport resident, son of the late James J. and Christine Troutman McCullough. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War. He retired from the Bridgeport Fire Department, as a pumper engineer after 30 years of service. James served on both the Bridgeport Fire and Police Commissions. He graduated from St. Augustine grammar school, and attended Central High School. James was a member of the Bridgeport Elks, Bridgeport Association of Retired Firefighters, American Legion, Bridgeport Old Timers Athletic Association, and enjoyed carpentry, and wood working. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 58 years Joan, his sons, Jim McCullough and wife Lisa of Middlefield, and Stephen McCullough and fiancé Lynne of Milford, his daughter Maribeth Oleynick and husband Frank of Bridgeport, his five grandchildren Frank, Michael, Matt, Chloe, and Daniel, his sister Christine and husband Val Angiolette of Oxford, and his brother George McCullough and wife Nina of Stratford, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Augustine Cathedral, 359 Washington Avenue, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
