Obituary

James T. McDonald, age 87, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Bette" Rajotte McDonald entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 22th, 2007.  He was the son of John T. McDonald and Jane Langdon McDonald, formally of Whitney Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Jim graduated from Central High School and attended Ohio State University to attain a degree in accounting. In 1941 he enlisted in the Army Air force and graduated from Advanced Flying School in Mather, California as a navigator.  At first listed as "Missing in Action", his parents received a report through the International Red Cross that their son was wounded and was being held as a prisoner of war of the German government.  When the war ended he returned to the United States and distinguished himself having been awarded two Purple Hearts. As a navigator he became fascinated with weather forecasting.  He took courses in meterologology at New York University and the University of Pennsylvania and then passed the Civil Service Examination for forecasters.  Jim was the first meteorologist at the United States Weather Bureau in Stratford, Connecticut. Jim then opened and operated a driving school because compulsory driver education became necessary for teenage drivers.  He was dedicated to the education of teenagers to road safety. Because he so enjoyed driving he became a personal chauffer for the Chairman of the Board of the Woolco Corporation. Jim enjoyed coaching the Saint Patrick's School baseball team.  He derived much pleasure from boating, traveling and raising dogs. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.  He leaves behind a daughter, Christine and her husband Daniel Cook of Milford, Connecticut and a son, James and wife Therese McDonald of Monroe, Connecticut.  He has one nephew, Robert McDonald and wife Joan of Long Island, New York.  He was dearly loved by his five grandchildren, Alison McDonald Cook of Astoria, New York, Kevin McDonald Cook of Milford, Connecticut, Michael Erik McDonald of Boston, Massachusetts, Scott Christopher McDonald of Seattle, Washington, and Emilie Alana McDonald of Monroe, Connecticut. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:15am from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 11:00am in St. Andrew Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Thursday morning 8:00am – 10:15am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Milford or Monroe Animal Shelter.
