Obituary

James J. Sullivan, of Lake Forest, Bridgeport, departed this life on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, after an accident at home. Mr. Sullivan was born in Massachusetts and moved to Bridgeport when he was a child. He married Vivien Bedford on September 4, 1947. They moved from the south end of Bridgeport to Lake Forest in the late 1950's and welcomed a daughter to their family. With his wife and daughter, Jim raised german shepherds for many years, enjoying their company and companionship. He was a naval veteran of World War II, having served in Lauzon, Phillipines. Jim was a thirty plus year veteran of the Bridgeport Fire Department, working his way from pumper engineer and retiring as captain. He also held various part-time jobs in the 1960's and 1970's, including Grand Union, WT Grant, Beck and Quint, Overland Fabrics, EJ Korvette, Marriott, and Clairol. Jim was a real estate broker for many years following his fire department retirement. Mr. Sullivan will be remembered for his love of visiting Maine every summer for family vacations. He was a communicant of St. Andrew Church, where he proudly served as an usher and was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. He belonged to several organizations including the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters, Amuets, University of Bridgeport Alumni Association, Lake Forest Neighborhood Watch, serving as the home base coordinator, and the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, a sister, a brother, and is survived by his daughter; Pamela Kinner and her husband Larry of Old Orchard Beach, ME, a brother Al Sullivan of Florida, sister-in-law Marge Sullivan, friend, and neighbor Marjorie Bernard and her daughter Angelica, Knight of Columbus friend Craig Renzulli all of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00am meeting directly in St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, Pilgrimage Mausoleum. Friends may call Sunday from 2pm to 6pm in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. The family would like to thank the Bridgeport Fire Department Paramedic Team, the Emergency and ICU staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center for their compassionate care, also his many neighbors for looking in on him at home.
