Obituary

It is with heartbreaking sadness that I have to announce the passing of my incredible mother, Jeanne M. Gilson.

Jeanne passed away in the early morning hours on Feb 24, 2022 at the age of 70 in Seymour, CT.

Jeanne was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1951 to Anne and James Kennon.

She is predeceased in death by her mother and father, Anne and James Kennon, her sister Kathleen Daubert, her brother Robert Kennon, and her brother in law, Johnny Richardson.

She is survived by her sister Liz Richardson, her daughter Susie Cheney, her daughter Stephanie Cheney and her significant other Whitney King, and her son Robert Cheney and his wife Michele Cheney. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Andre Cheney, Grayson Cheney, and Kaden King, and many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Jeanne always had a passion for caring for others and enjoyed working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, but wanted to do more, which led her to go back to school at the age of 53. She completed the rigorous one-year fast track program from Bucks County Community College from which she earned her Practical Nursing license in 2004.

Throughout her nursing career, she favored working with the older population in nursing homes, caring for them and sharing her infectious laughter, bringing smiles to so many people.

During this time, Jeanne also raised her three children almost entirely by herself and that was no easy task.

Jeanne spent a few years in Texas to be near her mother and sister, but moved to CT in 2016 to be near her daughter, Stephanie Cheney, when she and her significant other Whitney King were expecting their son, Kaden. Jeanne spent the entire first year of Kaden's life babysitting and caring for him while Stephanie went back to work and Jeanne had the time of her life doing this. Jeanne got to bear witness to his first steps, first foods, and everything between which brought her immense joy.

Our family likes to say that we put the 'fun' in dysfunctional, and it's so true. We have had some difficult times but we have also laughed so hard that we barely escaped peeing our pants (okay, some did pee their pants), and those are the times that our family will remember and cherish forever.

Our family plans to hold a private ceremony in her favorite place, Cape Cod.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to this gofundme that has been setup to help provide support and services for Jeanne's oldest daughter, Susie.
