Joan Victoria Brill Hughes

August 28, 1935 – February 17, 2026

She’s home now dancing with her beloved husband. No two people were more in love with each other than Joan and Gene Hughes. They showed us all how to love. She missed him every day for 17 years and wanted nothing more than to go to him. Godspeed Joan. She had the love of a large family, her children Eugene, Nancy, Christopher, Michael, Brian and Katrina, Tracy, Lisa, and Rebecca and 13 grandchildren Chris, Sam, Tate, Victoria, Curtis, Sean, Alix, Jett, Ethan, Jayne, Gavin, Will, Joe and recently her first great-grandchild, Palmer. Joan leaves behind her sister Connee and brother Donald. Love is all around in the memories each of us hold close. Sitting at the bar with her at the National Hotel on Block Island singing with the piano player. She was happy. She knew how to talk to the bullfrogs we were trying to catch at night in a lake. She was fun. Surfrider Beach Club every day during the summer and ice cream after at the DQ at the foot of the Oceanic Bridge in Red Bank. We loved the beach and she loved chocolate ice cream. Love, Joan postcards sent to her golf buddy son. She appreciated us. A squirrel costume with a real mink tail for a kindergarten play. She made us feel special. Bouffant hair in the early 70’s. She was beautiful. A wedding day tradition is fulfilled with a simple act. She let us sparkle. A Den Mother, a Football mom. Art critic. Sideline cheerleader for everything we all did. She was love.
