Joan Swartz McCullough, age 83 of Bridgeport passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, the result of the effects of Parkinson's. Born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Stephen and Mary Bartol Swartz, and the beloved wife of the late James J. McCullough. She graduated from St. Augustine's School and Central High School, and served as chairperson of each of the Class of 1949's reunions. She was the National Amateur Figure Roller Skating Champion in 1943 and 1944. Joan served as Vice Chairman of the Republican Party in Bridgeport and as the first Woman Alderperson elected from the 133rd District. She retired as Director of Medical Records at the So. CT Dialysis Unit and was previously employed by Remington Arms. An ardent UConn basketball and NY Mets baseball fan, she will be remembered for her sweetness, indomitable spirit and good humor through all of life's challenges. And for her cooking which we all counted on. Survivors include her loving children, sons, Jim McCullough of East Haddam and Stephen McCullough and his wife Lynne of Milford, daughter Maribeth Oleynick and her husband Frank of Bridgeport, cherished grandchildren, Frank, Michael, Matt, Chloe, Daniel, Holly and Jack, brother-in-law George McCullough and his wife Nina. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:00am from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:00am in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial.
