Joan I. Rashan, age 79 of Derby, wife of the late Frank Rashan, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Daughter of the late John and Beatrice Drexler, she was born in Jamaica, NY on November 12, 1933. Joan moved to Bridgeport at the age of nine. She was a longtime resident until her move to Derby in 2001. Joan was an employee of Reads Department Store (Macy's) working in Bridgeport and then in Trumbull until her retirement. She was a sixty plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield. Survivors include her devoted children; Mark Rashan and wife Millie, Susan Cannizzaro and husband Sam, Kevin Rashan and wife Tina, and Linda McCarthy, a very special cousin Doris Trimble. She leaves behind four grandchildren; Amy, Colleen, Amber and Madison, a great grandson Brandon, sisters-in-law Mary Jane and Olga, a brother-in-law Edward, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m., meeting directly in First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield, 2475 Easton Turnpike Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
