Joanne White passed away on August 22nd, 2025 in New Haven, with her beloved husband of 50 years, Michael J. White, by her side.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Andrew and Mary O'Shea Smeragulio, Joanne dedicated her career to Special Education at Fairfield Public Schools, where she made a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and families through her compassion and commitment.

Above all, Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who found her greatest joy in her family.  She is survived by her husband Michael, her daughter Lisa Opert and her husband, Peter, her sons, Daniel White and his wife Shelby and Jonathan White and his wife Sakkara, her grandchildren Emmett, Silas, Milo, Hattie and Della, her siblings, Virginia and her husband Ronald Kulesa, Donna and her husband Mohsen Hagh, Andrew Smeragulio, Jimmy Smeragulio, and Katie and her husband Joseph Montini and her best friend, Dana Pagliaro-Correa.

Joanne was preceded in death by her treasured son, Ryan, and her sister-in-law and dear friend Susan Bradley, who remained part of her every day.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00a.m., meeting directly at St. Mary's Church, 212 Elizabeth Street, Derby. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
