John Raymond Blackwell Sr., age 90, of Bridgeport, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull with his family by his side. John was born June 10, 1918 in Oakdale, PA, son of the late Arthur F. and Ethel M. (Patton) Blackwell. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and recipient of three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. John worked for 45 years for Bridgeport Metal Goods. He was a long time member of the V.F.W. Post 145, Bridgeport and the Cabrini Knights of Columbus, 3rd. degree. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary C. (Brunette) Blackwell, a daughter, Rosemary, two brothers, Joseph and William and four sisters, Charlotte, Ethel, Flo and Margaret. Survivors include his children, MaryAnn Omiatacz of Milford, Anthony Blackwell of Bridgeport, John R. Blackwell Jr. and wife Gail of Trumbull, Margaret Kellogg and husband Seeley of Durham and RoseAnn Mayer and husband William of Huntington, grandchildren, John III, Stacey, Kimberly, Marisa, Heather and Justin, great grandchildren, Christopher, Noah, Matthew and Tyler; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
