John F. Campbell, Treasurer of the Town of Easton, passed away at home, at the age of 67, after a long illness. Born on D Day, June 6, 1944, son of the late Christina Campbell Nelson, John was raised in Old Greenwich by the late Margaret and Victor Sarin and attended public schools there. He graduated from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity and attended UVa's Graduate School of Business. John was an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army, where he was a Rifle Platoon Leader and Battalion Liaison Officer with "Top Secret" clearance. He retired after a 17 year career with The McGraw – Hill Companies where he was responsible for monitoring trust investment activity for all company pensions, 401K profit sharing plans and VEBA long term disability plans. Previously John spent 18 years with Chase Manhattan Bank, NYC, where he was responsible for employee benefit administration. He served as Trearsurer of the Town of Easton for the past four years. His memberships and community service included, the Easton Lions Club two term president, Knight of the Blind Award 2010, Easton Pension and Benefits Commission, Pension Group East three term president (an association of some 85 corporate and public retirement plan sponsors), volunteer statistician for the New York Islanders coaching staff for 20 years and a long suffering Chicago Cubs fan. John was a communicant of Notre Dame of Easton Church and a member of the parish's Men's Association. Second to his family John had a love for playing golf. He leaves his loving wife, Cecelia and two beautiful children, Charlotte and Duncan, numerous cousins in the United States and Canada and a beloved goddaughter, Annie Gorin. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly in Notre Dame of Easton Church, 640 Morehouse Road, Easton, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Aspetuck Cemetery, Easton. Friends may call Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
