John J. Dooley, age 78, of Shelton, beloved husband of Patricia Curran Dooley, passed away in his home Wednesday, September 15, 2010, with his family by his side. John was born in Bridgeport, son of the late John and Ada Parkin Dooley and has resided in Shelton 38 years. He retired as a supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service, where he was employed for 32 years. John was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as White House Honor Guard during the Eisenhower Administration. He was a member of the East End Yacht Club and served on their Board of Governors and as a liaison officer. He was also a member of the Shelton American Legion and VFW. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two loving sons, Patrick J. Dooley of Yaphank, L.I. and Michael J. Dooley and his wife Jane of Wilton, two sisters, Mary Harper of West Palm Beach, Florida and Winifred Dunn of St. Petersburg, Florida, three grandchildren, Devon, Matthew, and Stacia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Katherine Pearson and stepbrother Chet Hughes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 9:30am from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:30am in St. Lawrence Church, Shelton with a Mass of Christian Burial. Military Honors will follow after Mass. Interment will be private. Friends may call Friday 4-7pm.
