John Lawrence Fritz, age 73 of Stratford passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at West Haven Veterans Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Smith Fritz. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late John and Mary Clark Fritz. Mr. Fritz was a resident of Trumbull and Stratford most of his life and also had previously lived in Vermont. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanical engineer and also enjoyed his second career as a master gunsmith. He was the current President of Bridgeport Rifle Club, and former Rifle/Pistol Chairman of Fairfield County Fish and Game. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Alice Fritz of Shelton and Mary Fritz of Stratford, his son John Fritz of Shelton, his granddaughter, Katja Keeling, his great-grand daughter Amelia Keeling and his "brother-by-another-mother" Brian Huda. Friends may call Thursday 4-7pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull with a prayer service beginning at 7pm. Interment will be private.
