John F. Gill, Sr., age 85 of Stratford, beloved husband of Ruth Murphy Gill, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on November 2, 1924, he was son of the late Patrick and Mary Flanagan Gill. In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years survivors include his four children and eight grandchildren; Dr. John Gill, Jr. and wife Anne and their children, Ryan, Katie, and Emma of Indianapolis, IN, Ann Lathrop and her son Philip John of Hawthorne, Ca, Mary-Beth Switzgable and husband Tom and their children Tommy and Megan of Trumbull, Sarah Ogle and husband Ed and their children Allison and Amy of Oxford. John is also survived by a brother, Dr. Nicholas Gill and wife Maureen of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, William Lathrop. Special thanks should be given to John's nephew, Nicholas Gill of Ridgefield for his kindness and friendship over many years. John graduated from Central High School, and served as a US Navy radio operator at the end of World War II. He was a graduate of Fordham University and Boston College Law School. Prior to his retirement in 1989, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Connecticut. John was a devout Catholic who deeply loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11:00am, meeting directly in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, from 4pm to 7pm in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
