John Phillips Macgregor, age 90, of Trumbull devoted husband of Maryn Macgregor died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late Robert and Jessie Macgregor and had been a Trumbull resident since 1951. He was a retired Industrial Engineer at Framatome Connectors, Inc. and held the status of Industrial Engineer for over forty years, with several different companies. Mr. Macgregor was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific, and with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific as a signalman. He was a charter member of the Raymond T. Goldbach V.F.W. Post #9460, a fifty year member of Washington Lodge #19 A.F. & F.M., past Commander of U.S. Naval Veterans, Port 5, and was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. Association (1st Division). This year he was awarded the Veteran's Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Macgregor was a member and past president of the Tashua Knolls Senior Men's Club. His lifelong hobby was in the barbershop quartet singing and he was a 53 year member of the Bridgeport Chapter of the Barbershop Singing Society. His longest running barbershop quartet, The Soundsmen lasted 27 years and they entertained on stage shows all over the U.S. and Canada. In 1971 The Soundsmen made a tour of the Far East for the U.S.O., to entertain Vietnam War wounded, and in 1981 they sang at the White House for President Ronald Reagan and guests. Survivors in addition to his devoted wife of 62 years Maryn, include a beloved daughter Sandra Galla, and husband Thomas of Trumbull, a grandson David Galla and wife Traci of Trumbull, granddaughter Nicole Stelik and husband Aaron of Waterford, three great grandchildren, Cole Galla, Sean Galla, and Ethan Stelik. He was predeceased by a son David Peter Macgregor. Friends may call Thursday, June 19, 2008 from 5 to 8 pm in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
